Alright. Three weeks and it happens all over again, but harder.

Bagan Gates

As opposed to the gaudily painted ironwork of Yangon temples, the gates and grilles of Old Bagan are plain iron. Like stained glass windows in Christian churches, the ironwork and murals of Myanmar’s temples illustrate scenes from Buddha’s life or the region’s religiopolitical history. In Bagan, most of the murals disappeared in the earthquake, but the ironwork has been replaced at the larger temples. As far as I could tell, the souvenir markets that spring up within the temple walls don’t actually contribute to the wellfare of the buildings.
