Remember the mention of amebapores a couple of months ago? Well, something similar is being employed as a cancer drug at our med school right now. Instead of hulking big proteins, though, these are oligopeptides found in bee venom that aggregate to penetrate cell membranes. The delivery mechanism allows the peptides to be targeted to tumor cells, so it’s looking pretty promising in murine (read: mouse) trials. I am tres excited and suggest you take a moment to read the user-friendly press release here.
